Indonesia's 80th Anniversary Tournament

The waves of the Indian Ocean bore witness to a three-day fishing tournament (August 15–17, 2025) organized by the Kuto Pancing Palembang community in collaboration with Asia Pancing Indonesia, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. This event fused the anglers' skills with a spirit of nationalism out at sea.  A total of 76 participants from Palembang, Lubuklinggau, Prabumulih, Lampung, and Jakarta took part using five of the best boats.

Despite challenging weather conditions, their enthusiasm remained fervent in pursuit of the biggest catch. Results: Bengrala (Lampung) took first place with a 30.5 kg grouper on the KM Alfa 7. Dani (Palembang) secured second with a 9.4 kg dogtooth tuna on the KM Azizi, and Erik (Palembang) finished third with a giant grouper weighing 9.04 kg on the KM Berdikari 9. Their catches symbolized hard work and perseverance. A historic moment unfolded on August 17 at 10:00 AM WIB when all boats halted for a flag ceremony in the middle of the ocean. The anglers stood at attention and sang the national anthem, blending their love for the hobby with devotion to their homeland. Committee Chair Andi emphasized that this event was more than just a competition; it was a platform to strengthen camaraderie while promoting Indonesia’s fishing tourism. Support also came from the CEO of Sumatera Ekspres Group, DR HM Muslimin, SH., MH., who saw the event as a means to foster brotherhood. The tournament closed with hopes that similar events would be held annually, becoming a magnet for Indonesia’s marine tourism and bolstering the nation's positive image on the global stage.
